Manlius Artist Mark Noble to Participate in Everson’s 60/60 for Third Year

Manlius artist Mark Noble will be creating an original artwork in 60 minutes at the third annual 60/60 fundraiser at Everson Museum of Art, presented by the Members’ Council, on June 17 from 5:30. to 7 p.m.

Noble sees the event as a challenge since starting and finishing a piece in one hour isn’t as easy as it may sound. Despite the stress and fast pace, the event itself is magical in his eyes.

“I love the idea of gathering talented, local artists to provide a live artistic experience for the general public. For me, watching a live art experience is similar to a magician sharing how he performs his illusions,” said Noble.

Noble has participated in the event all three years because he sees it as a way to show the “non-artist” the skill and entire process needed for the final product to come alive. He hopes to see the event provoke inspiration in those who wouldn’t consider themselves good at art.

“Anyone can be an artist and I encourage everyone to try,” said Noble.

Noble is heading into the event with a simple strategy.

“The first two years I have been involved, I created pieces that evolve, grow and tell a story as the painting comes alive and is completed. My desire is to do the same this year,” said Noble.

Noble studied illustration at Syracuse University. He now works as a painter, muralist and graphic designer among other titles.

Noble was heavily involved in creating artwork for the Eastern Hills Bible Church in Manlius. As the art director of the church, Noble teamed up with the children’s directors to create a safe, familiar, yet adventuresome space for the children called the Promiseland.

Once the style and atmosphere for the works were decided on, Noble had the challenge of designing 7 panels to create the theme. Over 100 local volunteers, mostly from the church, then stepped forward to make the vision come to life in about five months.

“My favorite part of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity was being able to utilize volunteers, who did not claim artistic skill, to be artists for the day. I experienced artists amazing us with their God given gift of creating artwork and sharing that gift. The best part of all of it, though, was seeing the joy the volunteers experienced and the joy of the children as they first entered the Promiseland,” said Noble.

Noble’s work with the church and his participation in 60/60 demonstrate his enthusiasm for art and inspiring others to challenge themselves to put to use their artistic talents, even if they don’t believe they have any.

Admissions to 60/60 is $30 per person. For more information, or reservations, visit www.everson.org, call (315) 474-6064 or email Sarah Massett, smassett@everson.org
